Release date for Apple's first FOLDABLE iPhone leaks online - and it suggests fans don't have long to wait at all

It is one of the world's leading tech companies but, unlike its rivals, Apple is yet to reveal its own folding phone design. Now, a possible release date for the long-rumoured foldable iPhone has leaked online - and it suggests tech fans don't have long to wait. According to reports from Apple analysts, the foldable iPhone could be launched before the end of 2026. The rumours also suggest that Apple's latest innovation won't come cheap, with an expected price tag of 2,299. That would make the'iPhone Fold' almost twice the price of Apple's current most expensive smartphone, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which starts at 1,199 (UK price 1,199).

Google has released an official video of its first ever foldable smartphone - the Pixel Fold. A video shows the sleek, silver device which opens up like a book with a vertical hinge, and has a camera array on the back that is similar to other Pixel devices. The tech giant has yet to release any technical details or price, as the full announcement will come on May 10 during its developer conference, Google I/O. This comes just a week after footage was leaked on Twitter of an alleged Pixel Fold prototype, which looks very similar to the one in the official video. The smartphone will see Google join Samsung, Huawei and many more of its rivals in offering a foldable device.

Samsung appears to have accidentally leaked a short video clip of its forthcoming foldable smartphone, expected to be called the Galaxy X or Galaxy F. A teaser video posted by Samsung Vietnam was posted online before being swiftly deleted, though not before a copy of it was ripped and reuploaded to YouTube. The video appears to be a showcase of forthcoming technology from the South Korean electronics giant, including a three-panelled augmented reality mirror and a tattoo robot. Two separate shots also showed a woman using a folding phone, featuring screens on both the inside and outside of the device. Samsung previously teased the foldable smartphone at an event in November, though it was difficult to see what the hybrid handset looks like as the unveiling took place with the lights turned down. Uber has halted testing of driverless vehicles after a woman was killed by one of their cars in Tempe, Arizona.

Samsung has long been rumoured to be developing a radical folding phone - and it could soon see the light of day, it has been claimed. A support page for the handset has been spotted online weeks after if was certified by Korean authorities. It is believed the handset could be unveiled at the CES show in Las Vegas in January. A previous Samsung patent revealed what the handset is expected to look like, with a hinge allowing it to be folded rather like a wallet. The handset has the model number SM-G888N0 - with the NO signifying it will only go on sale in South Korea.

Samsung's much-rumored foldable smartphone has been in the pipeline since the company first debuted its flexible display prototype, Youm, in 2013. Now the Korean tech giant says the almost-mythical device could launch next year under its Galaxy Note brand. Emphasis on the "could", though, as Samsung president Koh Dong-jin has been sure to mention the hurdles that stand in the way. Speaking at a news conference announcing the Galaxy Note 8, he said of the foldable smartphone, "I can say our current goal is next year. When we can overcome some problems for sure, we will launch the product."


Samsung Mobile President Says Foldable Smartphone Might Arrive In 2018

Samsung's president of mobile business Koh Dong-jin has confirmed that the South Korean phone maker is planning to launch a foldable smartphone in 2018. Additionally, the executive also confirmed that Samsung is indeed developing its own voice-controlled smart speaker. "As the head of the business, I can say our current goal is next year," Koh said Tuesday. "When we can overcome some problems for sure, we will launch the product." The executive was a press conference at the time, showing off the newly announced Galaxy Note 8. Rumors of a foldable Samsung smartphone have been going around for quite some time now since the company has been seen working on it for years.
